With effect from 1st June 2017, all members, irrespective of their age will receive 3 x final pensionable salary plus their members share in the Fund.

Funeral Benefits

Family life cover available on the following basis (effective from 1 February 2019).  The death benefit remains 3 x Pensionable salary covering members up to 90 years.

Up to a maximum of 3 Spouses and 7 children. The cover ceases at the age of 90 years. In addition to this benefit the insurer will repatriate the body of the deceased to the place of burial as determined by the family.

The funeral cover is as follows:

Main Member or Spouse: R40 000.00
Children 14 – 21: R30 000.00
Children 6 – 13: R20 000.00
Stillborn up to 5 years: R10 000.00

Definition of a child

  • Child: The member’s natural or legally adopted child
  • Provided such child is under the age of 21 years and unmarried.
    • A married child or a child who has turned 21 may continue to qualify as a child if he or she suffers from a defect of mind or body and is financially dependent on the member.

A married child or a child who has turned 21 may continue to qualify as a child up to and including the age of 25 years if he or she continues in full time education

DEATH BENEFITS – only applicable to members. The initial death benefit of R40 000 is payable within 24 hours and does not form part of your death benefit. Over and above the funeral benefit the following becomes applicable

The full death benefit is made up of your member share plus the insured benefit paid by the Insurer. Members who stop contributing will be covered for the first three (3) months for their death benefits with the premium being paid from their member share. Once the three (3) months lapse and no contributions have been received for these members the benefit falls away.

Note that the insured benefit paid to the Fund by the Insurer may be zero if your contributions have not been paid over by your Municipality to the Fund on time or if your Municipality delays in informing the Fund of your death.

In order for the fund to be aware of your beneficiaries and subsequently be in a position to expedite the payment a, Nomination of Beneficiary form is required. (click here to download)

The following documentation must be submitted in full with each application of funeral benefits:

  1. Duly completed application form for funeral benefits
  2. Originally certified copy of the deceased’s identity document or birth certificate
  3. Originally certified copy of the deceased’s death certificate
  4. Originally certified copy of the applicant’s identity document
  5. Bank statement from applicant stamped by your bank (confirmation of banking details)
  6. Originally certified copy of the witness’s identity document
  7. Proof of marriage
    a. Customary marriage – Letter from Tribal Chief confirming the marriage and
    lobola affidavit or registration of customary marriage
    b. Originally certified copy of legal marriage certificate
